7 Seconds & the Emergence of Artificial Intelligence
Any guess as to what the title is referring to? 7 seconds, per a Harvard Business Review article titled How to Get Your Resume Noticed (And Out of the Trash Bin) by Kristi DePaul, is how long people view your resume before making a decision. It has to have a forward looking summary (what value you add to an organization) and, thanks to Artificial Intelligence, resumes now have to be a key word match exercise. This is sad and it is boring but it is also how to play the game. Our team works with students looking for internships and their first career jobs and we coach these very principles. We also keep brevity and being succinct top of mind at every step along the way.
As I have encouraged to season colleagues that have been in the workforce for > 20 years, the resume is a cover sheet and the real differentiation comes in the form of your hilight reel. This can be a video, a power point presentation, etc.
I encourage you to read this great article from 2020 as the insights are still very relevant. And, if you are looking for a partner, please reach out to us today.
